Homemade nitrogen laser

In senior high school I had some freedom to choose topic for a project course. I was interested in spectacular things like pyrotechnics and lasers, so I decided to construct a nitrogen laser following an article in Scientific American (vol. 230, 122-127, 1974). A classmate, Johan Nilsson, joined the project and we spent many afternoons together in the physics lab. With time, effort and help from generous and open-minded people we eventually managed to build it.

Thesis (Specialarbete in Swedish)

The thesis is available here. It was written when I was 18 years old. There is also an operation manual in the form of a PC program, which was developed in Visual Basic, but it was made in a computer lab and there could be copyright issues that prevent me from putting it online.

This work would not have been possible without support from various people, companies and institutions. In particular I want to thank my physics teacher, Lennart Eriksson, the director of studies, Kurt Winzell, and the companies Elkapsling in Alby, Norrskog Wood Products - Östavallsågen, E.S. Mönsterkort in Järvsö, Ånge Glasmästeri, Permascand in Ljungaverk, and the Swedish Resource Centre for Physics.
